About the role
- Patient Care Assistant II supporting clinical tasks at Mass General Brigham, working under the direction of an RN to ensure patient comfort and safety.
Responsibilities
- The Patient Care Assistant II functions as a member of the patient care team, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN)
- Responsible for supporting the RN with clinical tasks, including but not limited to blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, and responding to medical emergency situations
- Makes routine patient room rounds to address patient needs
- Follows and maintains restraint policies, under the supervision of a licensed nurse
- Provides assistance to co-workers, as requested
- Communicates with Charge Nurse/Nursing Supervisor to coordinate break periods with unit activities
- Maintains timely ongoing verbal communication with RN throughout the shift, regarding patient condition
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [CNA/PCT]
- HeartSaver CPR AED - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language
- Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing
- Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements
- Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations
- Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift
- Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff
