About the role

  • Assist the firm in generating new business for the Emerging Growth and Venture Capital team
  • Drive new business opportunities through targeted approaches and coordinated cross-selling strategies
  • Leverage strong Venture Capital network to facilitate introductions and collaborate to build the brand in this space
  • Support creation of marketing materials, customize pitch decks, and identify third parties for go-to-market strategies around conferences, sponsorships and thought leadership
  • Manage the sales process and pipeline with team leaders, key attorneys and colleagues in the marketing and business development department
  • Build and cultivate long term relationships with entrepreneurs, executives, venture capital investment professionals, bankers, thought leaders, and other connectors to develop net new client opportunities
  • Lead and/or participate in meetings with existing clients and prospects
  • Advise and guide current venture-backed clients on strategic growth initiatives and connect them to relevant investors
  • Cultivate referral network independently and in partnership with attorneys
  • Identify leads, industry trends and gather intelligence on prospects, emerging markets and competition
  • Assist attorneys in meeting agreed upon goals and becoming more effective in sales and client relations
  • Conduct periodic client satisfaction surveys and other meetings with key clients
  • Identify service issues and focus on increasing client satisfaction
  • Customize and draft pitches and proposals
  • Serve as an ambassador for DLA Piper at major venture capital market programs and events
  • Support strategy for engagement at high-level client events, sponsorships, and educational programs to drive sales pipeline outcomes
  • Brief attorneys before meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communication, or related field
  • 8 years’ Business development experience preferably in a law firm or professional services organization
  • Prior experience working with law firms is preferrable but not required
  • Extensive experience and success with client development and building client relationships
  • Proven track record as an effective sales/business development specialist, preferably in a professional services industry
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills required to interact with senior executives and lawyers on a regular basis
  • Ability to quickly develop rapport and gain respect at all levels of an organization
  • Strong business acumen and ability to self-start to drive progress
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties
  • Ability to produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence in an efficient and responsive manner
  • Provide timely, accurate, and quality work product
  • Successfully meet deadlines, expectations, and perform work duties as required
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment
