About the role

  • Phlebotomist responsible for collecting blood specimens and performing relevant testing at UMass Memorial Health facilities. Ensuring compliance with medical guidelines and providing essential patient data and registration support.

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary from patients
  • Performs EKG, pulse oximetry, and point-of-care testing on inpatients and outpatients as required
  • Reviews requisition and orders from physicians to ensure appropriate tests are drawn
  • Prepares Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) for tests that do not meet Medical Necessity guidelines
  • Processes specimens including centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging

Requirements

  • High School graduate with successful completion from a recognized program for training in phlebotomy
  • Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment
  • Prior documented experience performing phlebotomy
  • Flexibility to work at other locations and campuses per the needs of the department
