About the role

  • Compliance & Audit Advisor ensuring financial compliance for projects in a children's rights organization. Advising on donor regulations and facilitating audits within a global nonprofit framework.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that donor regulations and funding guidelines relevant to the organization (including the German Federal Budget Code - Bundeshaushaltsordnung, funding decisions, regulations and provisions) are understood in their current version and consistently applied in project implementation
  • Advise and support program departments and project finance teams in planning, evaluating and following up on projects with respect to all financial compliance matters; proactively take into account audit-related requirements (audit preparedness)
  • Establish and monitor a project compliance risk system and advise program departments and project finance teams on preventive and mitigating measures
  • Provide advice on all financial compliance issues during contract negotiations with donors, propose appropriate contractual wording and proactively develop solutions, particularly in new and complex program contexts
  • Strengthen holistic compliance by supporting program departments in observing and systematically applying donor regulations in program implementation
  • Lead coordination of complex and time-consuming donor audits
  • Ensure internal communication on all audit matters between teams within the organization and, where relevant, with donors, SCI/SC Europe and the auditors
  • Manage and maintain data on the key findings of various audits and follow up on recommendations or requirements arising from audits; include deriving and developing process improvements and internal control systems
  • Systematically convey and consolidate expertise on compliance (especially financial compliance), project risks and audit topics within the organization

Requirements

  • University degree with a focus on economics, law, public administration or comparable qualifications/experience
  • Several years of solid professional experience managing project finances in a large, globally operating nonprofit organization engaged in international cooperation
  • Expertise in the following areas: institutional donor policies at EU, federal and state level (in particular ECHO, German Federal Foreign Office) and conducting audits by these donors
  • Understanding of and experience in risk management
  • Experience using ERP and CRM systems
  • Knowledge and experience in nonprofit law is an advantage
  • Flexible, positive and solution-oriented mindset
  • High degree of initiative, decisiveness and enjoyment in shaping strategic, cross-team processes
  • Very good German and English skills, both written and spoken; additional languages, especially French or Arabic, are an advantage
