About the role

  • Strategic Partnerships Manager supporting prosecutor-initiated resentencing in Minnesota, Illinois, and Utah, fostering partnerships and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a targeted outreach strategy and workplan to identify and prioritize outreach to prosecutors offices in the assigned territory.
  • Conduct power-mapping of the legal landscape in the territory to identify champions and potential barriers within specific jurisdictions.
  • In partnership with the Director of Strategic Partnerships, create a localized "onboarding roadmap" that aligns FTP’s national model with state-specific considerations.
  • Serve as the liaison between FTP and diverse justice stakeholders, including prosecutors, the judiciary, defense bar, and community-based reentry providers.
  • Facilitate high-level introductions between FTP leadership and elected prosecutors to build trust and secure programmatic commitments.
  • Deepen FTP’s understanding of the reentry landscape in the state, including connecting with reentry providers to streamline reentry services made available for resentenced individuals.
  • Negotiate MOU/SOWs and onboard prosecutor offices to work with FTP’s legal team.
  • Advise FTP leadership of strategy for identifying viable cases for resentencing, through analyzing prison data and addressing inequities in resentencing and building relationships with advocates in the state to better understand the sentencing landscape.
  • Organize and lead informational briefings, webinars, roundtable discussions for elected prosecutors and their senior staff, as well as other stakeholders.
  • Serve as lead coordinator of prison visits for prosecutors and other additional stakeholders.
  • Represent FTP at local criminal justice conferences, bar association or other legal/political events to raise the profile of PIR.
  • Position FTP as a vital resource for technical assistance, advising offices on criteria, workflow design, and data integration.
  • Review laws and understand structure of supervised release to advise Legal Team’s approach and protocols to resentencing of the supervised release population.
  • Review and edit existing pitch materials, including marketing flyers, strategy documents and PowerPoint presentations to tailor them to specific geographic territories.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of experience in the criminal justice system (e.g., former prosecutor, defense attorney, or policy expert) with a strong existing network of relationships with local criminal justice stakeholders, with an emphasis on prosecutorial experience and networks.
  • Candidates with experience working in the criminal justice field in Minnesota, Illinois, or Utah required.
  • Ability to think creatively and outside the box when persuading prosecutors and other system stakeholders to invest in second look pathways.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check requirements for viewing sensitive criminal justice data.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to speak to prosecutors and balance their priorities with stakeholder coalition building.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to work independently in a remote/consultant capacity.
  • A driving passion for FTP’s mission to reduce excessive sentences and restore human dignity to those impacted by the justice system.
