About the role

  • Corporate Counsel providing legal advice and support for compliance and operational matters at Bright Horizons. Managing litigation and claims processes while collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and business support to the Company as needed in areas of compliance and governance, business development and support, human resources management, and claim and incident resolutions
  • Provide tailored, practical and actionable legal advice, business support and overall leadership to the Company as needed with an internal and external customer service focus and based on a thorough understanding of the Company's goals, philosophy and values
  • Provide legal and strategic support and advice to mitigate liability by identifying, analyzing, and synthesizing risks, issues and offering solutions in a fast-paced environment and in a prompt and concise manner
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Company's services, operations and client relationships
  • Assist in the mitigation of risk and liability
  • Participate on Legal Department teams handling matters of interest to the Company
  • Responsible for drafting Company agreements, policies, procedures, guidelines and other instruments
  • Manage all stages of the resolution of incidents, claims, and litigation matters including working directly with outside counsel, conducting investigations, preparing internal and external communications, maintaining attorney-client privilege, advising on legal holds, overseeing discovery, coordinating depositions, subpoena responses and witness testimony, managing case strategy, and guiding settlement negotiations aligned with legal and business strategy
  • Develop and implement strategies for resolving disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or litigation
  • Support the Company’s incident management and claims processes by coordinating with internal departments, such as risk management, operations, human resources, finance and compliance, to gather information, ensure thorough and objective investigations, provide legal advice and develop communication strategies and prepare timely and effective responses

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school with a solid academic record
  • Admitted to practice (in good standing) in Massachusetts
  • 4 years experience as an in-house counsel or with a law firm (at least two years of which must be in the legal department of either the Company or an organization with lines of business similar to the Company)
  • 3 years experience with Claims/incident management and/or litigation (preferred)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, listening, communication skills
  • Ability to conduct themselves and exercise judgment based on the company’s HEART Principles: Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork
  • Ability to adapt legal requirements in a pragmatic way consistent with the Company’s mission, practices, financial needs and growth plans
  • Creativity and innovation in improving organizational and administrative processes

  • Computer skills using Microsoft programs
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic, good judgment, good attitude and ability to offer prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage large workloads and take ownership of issues and projects, including strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to perform consistently under pressure and meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment while providing timely, actionable advice
  • Experience in business or other strategic thinking roles, as well as strong analytical and financial skills with a mature business sense will be highly desired.
