About the role

  • Manager in Occupational Health, Safety & Disability Management for the City of Toronto. Overseeing health initiatives and team management for compliance and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a sizeable team of professionals in multiple locations, who consult on health and safety, and disability management with their client divisions.
  • Oversee established programs and initiatives ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory standards, while fostering the corporate culture of health and safety, and early and safe return to work.
  • Play an integral role in aligning with the management team in Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness, while also supporting senior leadership, in People and Equity, ensuring success and excellence as a strategic partner.
  • Lead a skilled and dedicated team of professionals and oversee a wide range of critical responsibilities, including incident reporting, ensuring consistency with corporate initiatives, and providing expert guidance on escalations from your team on matters related to health, safety and disability management.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a professional discipline pertinent to the job function combined with relevant management training and experience, or an equivalent combination of education and management/industry experience.
  • Extensive, progressive experience in the human resources field with a specialization in the areas of Occupational Health, Safety and Workers' Compensation/Disability Management. Preferably within a large and/or complex unionized public or private sector organization, applying Ontario legislation.
  • Considerable experience leading, developing, mentoring and engaging teams to deliver strong program outcomes, while fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, collective agreements and human resource policies and practices.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify needs, options, and opportunities for change/improvement and recommend solutions on related issues.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills in order to interact effectively at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to foster an organizational culture that emphasizes innovation, continuous learning, collaboration, transparency, accountability and trust while promoting a strong code of ethics and integrity to support public service excellence.
  • Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces.
