About the role

  • Policy Manager leading the development of rail industry policies impacting passengers and organizations. Collaborating with key stakeholders to drive change in the UK's rail system.

Responsibilities

  • Play a leading role at the heart of the rail industry, shaping policy that directly influences how the railway works for passengers, customers and funders.
  • Provide clear, credible advice to senior leaders across the organisation and to members and key external stakeholders.
  • Work with government, industry and delivery teams — turning evidence and insight into policy that supports real change.
  • Lead high‑quality policy advice and services for our members and industry partners, focusing on essential issues.
  • Think strategically and creatively, developing ideas aligned to business priorities and translating them into briefing or consultation responses.

Requirements

  • Good inter-personal and relationship building skills with external contacts and internal colleagues
  • Good communication skills - verbal, written and presentational
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills and Computer literate
  • Ability to structure, substantiate, draft and then communicate compelling policy positions and briefings
  • Broad vocational policy experience, acquired through a combination of job-related training and/or on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in policy roles
  • Knowledge of how UK Government works (desirable)
  • Understanding of rail industry and transport policy agreements (desirable)
