Responsibilities
Play a leading role at the heart of the rail industry, shaping policy that directly influences how the railway works for passengers, customers and funders.
Provide clear, credible advice to senior leaders across the organisation and to members and key external stakeholders.
Work with government, industry and delivery teams — turning evidence and insight into policy that supports real change.
Lead high‑quality policy advice and services for our members and industry partners, focusing on essential issues.
Think strategically and creatively, developing ideas aligned to business priorities and translating them into briefing or consultation responses.
Requirements
Good inter-personal and relationship building skills with external contacts and internal colleagues
Good communication skills - verbal, written and presentational
Excellent numeracy and analytical skills and Computer literate
Ability to structure, substantiate, draft and then communicate compelling policy positions and briefings
Broad vocational policy experience, acquired through a combination of job-related training and/or on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in policy roles
Knowledge of how UK Government works (desirable)
Understanding of rail industry and transport policy agreements (desirable)
