About the role

  • Accountant for the State of Illinois examining and processing financial documents for accuracy. Maintaining account records and serving as lead worker within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Examine, review, and process commercial invoices and travel vouchers submitted by agency personnel for accuracy.
  • Maintain complex, complete set of account books for department obligation and expenditure reports.
  • Serve as a designated lead worker.
  • Prepare, review, post, and file Contract Obligation Documents (COD) through the Statewide Accounting Management System (SAMS).
  • Perform development, testing, and implementation of enhancements to existing and new systems.
  • Serve as the IDFPR Travel Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
  • Prefers Associate's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Prefers at least two years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
  • Prefers at least one year of supervisory or lead worker experience, including oversight of staff or work assignment.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
