Responsibilities
Manage a complex portfolio of journals, owning the scheduling, tracking and overall progression from submission through to publication, while maintaining strong commissioning and indexing guidance for Editors.
Build and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders, including Editors, internal departments, and cross‑functional teams, to ensure smooth portfolio management and collaborative decision‑making.
Oversee workflows and support team members, balancing the needs of Editors and direct reports while understanding the challenges of journal commissioning and production.
Provide people leadership as a senior manager, including direct personnel management, mentoring, and supporting the professional growth of team members.
Use data to inform decisions, including tracking customer invoicing and escalating financial insights to support strategic prioritisation and development.
Champion customer needs, ensuring seamless collaboration across Emerald’s systems and processes.
Utilise key platforms, including ScholarOne and Emerald Submit, to manage and optimise operational efficiency.
Support the onboarding of new business, contributing to the successful integration of new journals and partners.
Requirements
Experienced in journal portfolio management within academic publishing.
Understanding of content submission systems and workflows and supporting programmes.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
A collaborative, inclusive approach to problem-solving.
Experience of journal project management, in academic publishing.
Experience of working across multiple, interdependent systems.
Understanding of the content management and submission systems landscape.
Experience of working cross-functionally across multiple departments.
