Senior Data Engineer at BHS building and operating data platform for audience insights and ad optimization. Collaborating on data modeling, pipeline development, and integration with analytics systems.
Responsibilities
Build and operate the portal’s data platform, ensuring audience events, editorial data and revenue data are available to feed recommendations, newsroom insights and ad optimization with quality and at scale.
Develop and maintain cloud pipelines (preferably GCP), focusing on BigQuery + Dataflow/Beam + Composer/Airflow.
Design the business data model: audience, content, users/sessions, inventory and performance.
Implement transformations with dbt (raw/trusted/curated layers), including tests and documentation.
Create datasets and features for recommendation and insights (e.g., recency, affinity, user journey, context, engagement).
Ensure governance, data quality, metric consistency (single definitions) and pipeline observability.
Integrate sources (GA4/Chartbeat/Ad server/CDP if available, CMS, logs, relational databases) and standardize contracts.
Optimize performance and cost (partitioning, clustering, incremental processing, slots/reservations, etc.).
Work closely with Data Science to enable experiments and feature deployment.
Requirements
Solid experience with Airflow/Composer and production pipelines.
Advanced SQL and Python.
BigQuery (modeling, performance, cost optimization) and GCS.
dbt (modeling, tests, docs; CI/CD is desirable).
Experience integrating systems and databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.).
DataOps best practices (monitoring, versioning, quality and SLAs).
Experience with event tracking (clickstream), audience data and engagement metrics.
Near real-time / streaming experience (Pub/Sub, Dataflow streaming) when required.
Experience with feature stores and ML pipelines.
