About the role
- Health and Safety Manager overseeing safety training and compliance on heavy civil infrastructure projects. Leading initiatives to ensure site safety and collaborate with project teams in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Provide site specific safety training and orientation to workers, owners and clients.
- Develop and train supervisors and staff on the Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
- Review project plans and project sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks.
- Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to guarantee compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and general public.
- Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
- Work with management to create plans for emergency procedures.
- Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.
- Represent Aecon at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.

Requirements
- 10 years’ experience working on heavy civil infrastructure projects, specifically bridges and major highways.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience coordinating and managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Construction Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
- Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
- OSHA 500 Certified is preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
