About the role

  • Senior Consultant in Staff & Labor Relations partnering with leadership to improve workplace culture. Provide guidance on HR policies and recommend strategies to address employee relations issues and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership, managers, and employees to foster a fair, equitable, and supportive work environment
  • Provide expert guidance on HR policies, employee relations, and labor relations matters
  • Recommend strategies and interventions to strengthen workplace culture and ensure compliance
  • Research and evaluate HR trends in specialty areas and educate HR colleagues
  • Collect and disseminate relevant HR resources and develop/support Duke-wide training and programming
  • Inform leadership on significant organizational issues, trends, and emerging concerns
  • Prepare reports, analyses, and written recommendations on progress and potential risks
  • Coordinate and implement HR programs that advance strategic goals
  • Identify employee-relations challenges and recommend appropriate interventions
  • Participate in interactive processes for reasonable accommodations and provide guidance on compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Human Resources, or related field
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of five years of HR management experience in a complex, multi-mission organization
  • Experience in health care and/or research environments preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and deep knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining, HR programs, and employee-relations practices
  • Ability to build partnerships and coalitions to achieve shared organizational goals
