About the role

  • Deep analysis of the scientific literature to define the adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms
  • Act as a Toxicology expert within the department and guide colleagues on how to interpret scientific literature and other sources of scientific information
  • Take initiative by raising, discussing, and resolving subject matter and production issues
  • Use scientific expertise to verify the work of colleagues and external contributors for accuracy and completeness, and ensure that the information is properly presented and organized in our Systems Biology database (MetaBase)
  • Support automated workflows and identify improvement opportunities across different Systems Biology processes, particularly Toxicology
  • Use SQL queries to identify and correct database errors automatically based on Editorial policies
  • Maintain and develop scientific knowledge and skills; provide/receive training as required to complete work and stay current
  • Report to the Systems Biology Team Manager and collaborate with a global team across Spain and India

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or any life sciences-related discipline
  • Master's or PhD laboratory research experience in Toxicology/ Pharmacology or a related discipline
  • Familiar with chemical properties, biological systems, and how substances interact with living organisms
  • Background in toxicological research (design and perform experiments, analyze data, and interpret results)
  • Background in cellular and molecular biology processes, with basic knowledge in pathology
  • Good scientific research and analytical skills, with attention to detail
  • High ability to interpret and explain a large amount of data
  • General computer proficiency (MS Office) and ability to quickly learn new software tools
  • Experience in databases and relationship models (desired)
  • Artificial Intelligence skills at user/ prompter level (desired)
  • Knowledge in SQL, R, and/or Python is a plus (desired)
  • Managerial skills to define and maintain priorities
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of diverse collaborators
