About the role

  • Social Media Communications Officer for SOS Mediterranee, focusing on digital strategy and community engagement. Develop and implement social media campaigns to support humanitarian missions from Berlin.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy for all relevant platforms (including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, Bluesky)
  • Create and manage content (text, images, video, etc.), both produced in-house and based on material from the Operations Department responsible for missions
  • Continuously monitor current social media trends, tools and best practices to further develop our work
  • Active community management: timely, professional responses to comments and messages
  • Increase engagement
  • Participate in the network-wide Social Media working group and represent the German team
  • Maintain and continuously expand the social media presence with a consistent brand identity and clear communication across all channels
  • Monitor, analyze and report relevant performance metrics (KPIs) for channels and derive concrete recommendations for action
  • Close cross-team collaboration to align social media activities with overarching communication and campaign objectives

Requirements

  • Creativity and a strong sense for design and content production
  • Strong intuition for trends and how to reach audiences emotionally—ideally with measurable results
  • Strong editorial skills, strategic thinking, and solid understanding of engagement mechanisms
  • Ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions to optimize social media strategy
  • Experience analyzing social media KPIs and deriving actionable recommendations
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) principles and an innovative mindset
  • Deep understanding of platform logics, algorithms, and social media best practices
  • Understanding of social search and social indexing
  • Knowledge of humanitarian assistance, particularly migration
  • Solid professional experience in digital communications or social media, ideally in a non-profit organization or an organization with social impact
  • Experience developing content formats with a focus on video
  • Excellent German language skills (writing, communication, grammar and spelling)
  • Very good command of English (spoken and written)
  • Proficiency with desktop-publishing/tools for creating digital content (Canva, Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, DaVinci Resolve, etc.)
  • Confident use of social media tools such as Hootsuite, Metricool, and common social media apps
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and Trello is a plus
  • Responsive and able to multitask
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate projects
  • Team player with a willingness to support colleagues
