About the role

  • Independently develop book projects.
  • Acquire book projects and licenses and conduct contract negotiations as part of acquisition activities.
  • Independently collaborate with authors, scouts, publishers and agencies in the German- and English-speaking markets, and support the development and further growth of German-language authors.
  • Prepare jacket copy, promotional and sales texts, etc., and provide cover briefs.
  • Present titles you have acquired as part of programme presentations.
  • Develop initial ideas for the marketing of titles.
  • Review and edit manuscripts.
  • Monitor and analyse the market.

Requirements

  • Several years of professional experience as an editor in a trade publisher.
  • Proven expertise in commercial fiction and literary works.
  • Strategic understanding of current developments and trends in fiction.
  • Strong network within the international agents/rights-holder environment.
  • Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to perform intensive text work, creativity, strong communication skills, and planning and organisational capabilities.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team.
