About the role

  • Project Manager leading optical systems development at THORLABS in Germany. Building spectrometers from concept to production with a focus on system requirements and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development projects while actively contributing hands-on to the systems
  • Develop new spectrometer concepts and optical designs
  • Define requirements and develop system architectures
  • Build and test prototypes in the laboratory
  • Analyze and optimize spectral resolution, efficiency, and stray light
  • Coordinate development with mechanical, electronics, firmware, and production engineers
  • Collaborate with external suppliers
  • Support new products from concept through series production

Requirements

  • Degree in Physics, Optics, Photonics, or a comparable discipline
  • Several years of professional experience (approx. 3–5 years) as a project manager in the field of optical systems or spectroscopy
  • Solid practical experience in assembling and testing optical systems
  • Strong interest in independently implementing and advancing technical projects
  • Structured, solution-oriented working style and a strong affinity for hands-on development work
  • Excellent German and English communication skills, both written and spoken
