About the role
- Sr Legal Counsel providing legal support on contractual matters for Nutrien, an agriculture company. Collaborating with various departments to ensure compliance and efficient management of legal risks.
Responsibilities
- Work with a team of attorneys, paralegals, and contracts professionals to provide timely, accurate legal advice on commercial contracts
- Exercise sound business judgment
- Develop and maintain relationships with an extensive network of colleagues and stakeholders
- Identify and advise on legal, regulatory and compliance-related risks
- Monitor and advise of changes to laws and regulations
- Collaborate with various Business Units to develop strategies for legal support
- Support training materials and communications for employee understanding of legal policies
- Facilitate adoption of process improvements and best practices
- Identify ways to mitigate and improve the management of key legal risks
- Retain and supervise outside counsel effectively
- Travel within North America and potentially abroad as necessary
- Be proactive and responsive to changing priorities
Requirements
- Membership of a Bar Association in the U.S. with qualifications to become a member of the Colorado Bar Association
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Significant in-house counsel experience combined with law firm experience preferred
- Experience advising agricultural businesses preferred
- Ability to hit the ground running and possess a well-developed set of skills
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, and be commercially astute
- Consummate team player and collaborator
- Demonstrated ability to create relationships across all levels of an organization
- Broad substantive legal background; experience in antitrust would be an asset
- Business, tax, or financial acumen would be an asset
- Experience of being a highly effective, practical lawyer focused on value creation
