About the role

  • Develop and maintain strategic foundation moves management plans to direct and monitor the progress of donor relationships.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with foundation program officers, community leaders, and corporate giving managers to build increasing levels of engagement and support.
  • Translate complex information and summarize persuasively in written format for a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Systematically track deadlines and foundation expectations to ensure reports and letters of intent are submitted in a timely manner to ensure ongoing funding and opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Development and the Development team, as well as programmatic staff, to prepare compelling proposals, stewardship materials, concept notes, grant deliverables, and other materials as needed, and ensure submissions are complete, accurate, and timely.
  • Utilize cultivation strategies and research to help prepare the Executive Vice President and relevant staff in advance of events, conferences, or meetings with funders and to undertake solicitations.
  • Oversee a portfolio of existing foundation relationships and identify, research, and set strategies to actively prospect new foundation funders with a goal of increasing funding from ongoing and new entities.
  • Act as a thought partner with the Executive Vice President and Vice President of Development to strategize and manage foundation prospecting and stewardship efforts.
  • Determine and lead a regular cadence of pipeline meetings with the Executive Vice President, Vice President of Development, and other relevant staff to ensure alignment.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance and collection of foundation information, revenue records, and grant documentation in NCJW’s database system, EveryAction.
  • Host kick-off meetings with relevant staff across departments before proposals and reports are due to ensure accurate reporting and information to be pitched.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of project management experience working within an organizational setting with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of grants and grant administration systems, processes, and budgeting.
  • Track record of successful grant writing, leading to 5- and 6-figure grants.
  • Superior oral communication, written communication, research, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work.
  • Extremely meticulous with details.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports in concert with the Finance Department.
  • Ability to be discreet with personal information that may be needed for some grants, such as employee salaries or upcoming projects.
  • Ability to work both independently and with supervision, and as part of a diverse team.
  • Aptitude for multitasking, prioritizing, attention to detail, and managing time in a fast-paced environment, which often presents competing priorities.
  • Creative team player with a collaborative spirit and proven ability to build productive working relationships internally and externally.
  • A self-starter, goal-driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Experience with Google Suite, databases (EveryAction), and online portals to regularly upload grant reports.
  • Prior experience with Jewish communal or progressive issue-based organization preferred.
