About the role

  • Administrative Assistant I supporting legal operations and Chief Legal Counsel at Department of Children and Families. Responsibilities include legal research, documentation, and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for independent work assisting the Chief Legal Counsel in providing analysis and research on a variety of administrative matters
  • Serves as the Chief Legal Counsel in the capacity as paralegal
  • Acts as district liaison for public records requests and subpoenas duces tecum
  • Receives and routes telephone calls, answering questions which may involve interpretation of policies and procedures and standard legal questions previously researched by an attorney
  • Performs legal research and writing as requested, including matters relating to personnel, grievances, PERC and EEO
  • Maintains court calendars and executive assignment logs
  • Manages confidential legal and case files and programmatic records and files
  • Receives and processes incoming mail
  • Processes invoices, time sheets, travel and other administrative tasks
  • Performs notary services (state will pay for notarization)
  • Drafts and prepares a variety of legal documents to be filed in circuit, county, appellate and administrative proceedings under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, office procedures and practices, legal terminology
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data, prepare correspondence and reports
  • Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Work independently
