About the role

  • HPC User Support Specialist at GRNET supporting researchers and engineers utilizing national HPC resources. Troubleshooting user requests and optimizing workflows in a high-performance computing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve HPC user support tickets
  • Assist users with job submission, scheduling, and workflow optimization
  • Support users in accessing systems, storage, and HPC software environments
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues related to jobs, applications, and resource usage
  • Help users improve the performance of their workloads, including profiling and basic code optimisation support
  • Run and analyse application benchmarks and scaling tests to understand performance bottlenecks
  • Contribute to onboarding, user guides, and technical documentation
  • Participate in user training activities (webinars, tutorials, hands‑on sessions)
  • Collaborate with system administrators to identify and resolve system-side issues impacting users
  • Provide feedback for improving HPC services and user experience

Requirements

  • Experience using Linux environments and command-line tools
  • Familiarity with HPC concepts such as modules, batch systems, job schedulers, and parallel computing
  • Exposure to HPC job schedulers (preferably Slurm)
  • Understanding of scientific computing workflows and common programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, Fortran, R)
  • Experience with HPC application execution or user support in a technical environment
  • Interest or experience in performance profiling (e.g., gprof, perf, Intel VTune, ARM MAP)
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues involving jobs, user environments, or software modules
  • Experience with ticketing or issue tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Redmine, ServiceNow)
  • Good knowledge of Greek and English
  • Will be considered a plus
  • Hands-on experience running workloads on HPC systems
  • Familiarity with profiling and performance tuning tools
  • Experience with containers for HPC (e.g., Apptainer/Singularity)
  • Knowledge of parallel programming (MPI, OpenMP)
  • Exposure to scientific domains (e.g., computational physics, AI/ML, bioinformatics)
  • Experience preparing training material or teaching technical subjects
  • MSc or PhD in a STEM field
