About the role

  • Payroll Manager responsible for Canadian and US payroll cycles, collaborating with European accounting firms on international payroll operations. Involves compliance with payroll laws and updates to employee records.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full payroll cycle for Canada and the United States in compliance with received payroll data
  • Prepare, record and reconcile payroll accounting entries each pay period for Canada
  • Provide payroll data to external accounting firms for European teams (France and Germany)
  • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the payroll database and process all updates/corrections to employee records
  • Ensure compliance with payroll-related tax and employment regulations
  • Ensure accuracy of sick leave, vacation, statutory/personal/family leave and overtime balances for all staff across various IT systems
  • Monitor and ensure compliance of employee records (absences, illness, parental leave, etc.)
  • Administer and maintain group insurance programs, pension plans and other employee benefits across regions
  • Collaborate with the HR team on the compensation program
  • Ensure year-end processes are accurate by following required steps within the payroll system
  • Support managers and employees with payroll and benefits enquiries
  • Meet with new employees during onboarding to explain payroll and benefits information
  • Create and update employee records in various technology systems
  • Produce and submit Records of Employment when required
  • Prepare various reports on request
  • Draft payroll policies and/or procedures.

Requirements

  • College diploma in accounting, administration or other equivalent education
  • Five (5) years of experience in a similar role
  • Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) or other equivalent certification
  • Strong knowledge of payroll and employee benefits legislation
  • Experience with international payroll is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including intermediate Excel skills
  • Experience with Nethris and Ceridian is an asset
  • Professionalism, discretion and confidentiality
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, discipline and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proactive, strong work ethic and able to work in a constantly evolving environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to manage reports and produce statistics
  • Bilingual in English and French, both written and spoken.
