About the role
- Arabic Medical Interpreter supporting effective communication in primary care settings and providing direct patient care advocacy. Trained in medical interpretation with required certifications and bilingual skills.
Responsibilities
- Interprets for patients without adding, omitting or editing what the patient or provider has communicated.
- Assists with walk-ins, pt. triage, registration, referrals and all other aspects of patient visit as needed.
- Helps providers to understand cultural differences, verbal and nonverbal, to facilitate communication between provider and patient and to assure quality health care.
- Accurately translates medical information in writing for health center staff.
- Assesses patients’ needs and provides advocacy information and referrals to other community agencies as needed.
- Completes patient care documentation or other health center required reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participates in PI projects relevant to case management and interpreter services duties.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years college or Associates degree in a related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- Medical Interpreter training required.
- Two years relevant work or volunteer experience required.
- Certification as Medical Interpreter required or must earn within 6 months of date of hire.
- Bilingual in English and another language appropriate to FHCW patient population required.
- Must have adequate reading/writing skills, including medical terminology, in both languages
