Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications plan to ensure the consistency, effectiveness, accuracy and currency of information communicated to customers, transit service staff and the general public.
  • Writes, edits and proofreads written communications provided to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides strategic advice to management on major communications issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (four-year) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or media relations.
  • Effective use of rich media for communications.
  • Effective communication tactics and techniques across traditional channels and the web.
  • Current trends in the communications industry and communication techniques.
  • Communication strategies and risk management.
  • Best practices in stakeholder/public engagement.
  • Local and current events affecting the Transit Service.
  • Municipal administration.
  • Microsoft Office suite and software such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Photography and videography.
  • Relevant health and safety legislation, including workers' rights and obligations.
  • Language requirements: Proficiency in English (spoken, read and written).
