Oversee TRIO Student Support Services program at Miami University Regional Campuses. Manage program activities and ensure compliance with federal regulations while supporting student success.
Responsibilities
Administer the TRIO, Student Support Services program as outlined by the grant guidelines and the United States Department of Education.
Supervise two Student Success Coaches and all Student Ambassadors.
Oversee the program budget and reporting for the TRiO Grant’s progress in collaboration with the Principal Investigator of the program and campus accounting and budgeting programs.
Participate in divisional meetings and facilitate TRIO staff meetings.
Build and maintain relationships with staff, students, faculty, and other campus stakeholders to aid with recruitment, retention, and graduation for students in the program.
Prepare and submit monthly reports on program activities and accomplishments to the Principal Investigator of SSS, and other members of the university community.
Develop and implement program activities which will aid participating students in their academic, career, personal, and organizational success.
Establish and maintain accurate, timely, and complete recordkeeping processes, ensuring that all grant reporting requirements and restrictions are observed.
Reconcile the funds and expenditures, monthly.
In conjunction with the Principal Investigator of SSS and the Miami University business office, coordinate and compile data and prepare grant reports.
Conduct research assessing the program’s effectiveness and student tracking.
Communicate the objectives and outcomes of the program to grant staff, administrators, other university personnel, and the grant program officer.
Actively participate in regional and/or national TRIO community to ensure compliance with current SSS policies and federal regulations and serve as a knowledgeable resource to assist campus colleagues in understanding and meeting program requirements.
Work with the academic coaches to create and analyze each student's Individual Assessment Portfolio (IAP) and help to develop individual Degree Accomplishment Plans (DAP).
Advise a small caseload of TRiO students regarding academics, financial aid, internships, graduate school, scholarships, career options, and make appropriate campus and community referrals as needed.
Maintain up-to-date individual student records and reports.
Assist with the direction and formulation of policies and programs that yield assistance to disabled and/or low-income students in obtaining services available at the University.
Develop and implement activities to promote student persistence and student growth.
Assist in identifying and/or selecting eligible students to participate in the program.
Assist participants with their orientation to general academic life and its requirements.
Requirements
Master's degree earned by date of appointment.
Three years' experience working with students in need of academic support and/or students with disabilities.
Program management experience.
Experience with or knowledge of appropriate college level strategies to enhance retention among students who are eligible to participate in the SSS project, including low-income or first-generation students, students with disabilities, and students with academic need.
Ability to supervise and direct program staff in the areas of student academic advising, first-year orientation, financial aid and/or other retention related services.
Excellent communication skills.
Knowledge of or experience in basic accounting practices used in budgeting and recording expenditures.
Knowledge of federal grant proposal writing and reporting process and the ability to understand and interpret federal regulations.
Knowledge of basic human resource processes necessary for developing job descriptions, interviewing, and recommendations for hiring.
Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting disadvantaged and at-risk students.
Proficiency in Google Suite applications and a basic knowledge of social media.
