About the role

  • Take ownership of the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring all journal entries, reconciliations, and reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations for key accounts, investigating and resolving variances promptly.
  • Work closely with local accounting partners and auditors to ensure statutory compliance and accurate financial statements under local GAAP and IFRS.
  • Prepare financial information and reports required by local regulators and authorities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
  • Oversee and execute Accounts Payable (AP) activities, including vendor invoices, employee expenses, and payments, ensuring proper controls and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the global Finance & Accounting team to align accounting data with group reporting and support consolidation.
  • Partner with Engineering and Finance Operations to automate manual accounting tasks, improve accuracy, and streamline workflows.
  • Support tax and compliance processes by preparing required information and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Participate in financial risk assessment and control reviews, maintaining strong internal control over accounting processes.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation of accounting procedures and controls, ensuring standardization across entities.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, suggesting better tools, automation, and best practices for the team.
  • Uphold confidentiality and integrity in all financial and operational matters.

Requirements

  • Certified Accountant (“Contabilista Certificado”) in Portugal.
  • 8–10 years of experience, including Big 4 audit background (financial services clients preferred).
  • Strong technical knowledge of Portuguese GAAP and solid understanding of IFRS.
  • Proven experience managing month-end close, audits, and external accounting providers.
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Fluent in English (Portuguese required).
