About the role

  • Independently develop book projects.
  • Acquire book projects and rights and conduct contract negotiations as part of partial acquisitions.
  • Independently collaborate with authors, scouts, publishers and agencies in German- and English-speaking territories.
  • Draft flap copy, marketing and sales texts, representative texts, etc.; provide cover briefings.
  • Present self-acquired titles during program presentations.
  • Develop initial ideas for the marketing of titles.
  • Review and edit manuscripts.
  • Monitor and analyze the market.

Requirements

  • Several years of professional experience as an editor in a trade/publisher focused on general interest books.
  • Demonstrable expertise in commercial fiction and literary fiction.
  • Strategic awareness of current developments and trends in fiction.
  • Very good network in the international agent/rightsholder community.
  • Fluent in German and English, spoken and written; additional languages a plus.
  • Self-motivation, ability to perform intensive text work, creativity and strong communication skills, as well as planning and organizational ability.
  • Enjoyment of teamwork.
