About the role

  • Report to the CEO and serve as senior leadership team member providing strategic guidance to Programs department
  • Develop and implement cohesive program strategy aligned with organizational strategy; set short- and long-term goals
  • Design and review the Programs department budget; prepare regular reports and presentations for SLT and Program Committee
  • Oversee management of all international program activities and select program activities in Canada; present projects to SLT, Board, and institutional donors
  • Manage financial and human resources for projects, including relationships with grantees and implementing partners; ensure budget compliance and annual objectives
  • Oversee grant proposal processes to obtain institutional funding and design strategies to meet program targets
  • Ensure program activity compliance with policies, procedures, PIP, budgets, M&E plans, and reporting deadlines
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships and foster relations with governmental, non-profit and community organizations; identify new partnership opportunities
  • Develop and maintain project information management system and remain informed about security, political developments, and humanitarian needs
  • Conduct field visits to project sites as needed and provide overall project assessments
  • Lead staff management: identify, develop and mentor program team; set objectives and work plans; manage workload and performance; implement personal development and conduct annual reviews; forecast hiring needs
  • Perform other duties as necessary, including leading organization-wide initiatives

Requirements

  • Senior or executive level manager
  • Master’s degree in related field required
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in the nonprofit relief and development sector, including program strategy, design, management, assessment and evaluation
  • Previous field experience, particularly in the Middle East, Asia, or Africa, is an asset
  • Proven ability to manage technical assistance teams
  • Broad skills and expertise in a technical area such as health, nutrition, education, water and sanitation, or other areas of development
  • Experience in leading and managing large projects in a complex post-disaster or post-conflict environment
  • Experience in writing grant proposals/applications
  • Demonstrated leadership of large and diverse teams
  • Ability to handle situations with diplomacy and strong presentation skills
  • Project management experience with proficiency in prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to work with a wide array of ethnicities
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, if needed
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and use of databases along with internet research techniques
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
