About the role

  • RVP responsible for managing underwriting and profit for construction business in the West. Leading a team with a focus on strategic partnerships and sales excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a team of underwriters
  • Managing 2 Managing Directors (and 1 indirectly) who assist in managing the territory and staff
  • Manages the profit and production of a book of construction business for Guaranteed Cost, Loss Sensitive, Wrap Up, and Excess Construction P&L
  • Oversees Construction and MLC/HIG cross sell efforts
  • Responsible for risk selection and participation in referrals on Loss Sensitive, Wrap and larger more complex guaranteed cost accounts
  • Builds strategic partnerships with key Construction agents, brokers and clients
  • Develops and implements segment sales plans
  • Maintains insight into competitors
  • Directs and manages team performance to ensure consistent practice of sales excellence discipline
  • Manages the flow and mix of business to optimize outcomes
  • Attracts, selects and develops high caliber diverse talent
  • Manages staff continuity by anticipating staffing needs
  • Establishes book vision, appetite and monitor pricing and production
  • Ensures adherence to underwriting practices and guidelines

Requirements

  • Strong Property & Casualty background
  • Experience with Loss Sensitive, Guaranteed Cost and Wrap Up insurance programs
  • Advanced degree and/or relevant industry designation (e.g., CRIS, CPCU, ARM OR CIC preferred)
  • Experience and understanding of OCIPs, CCIPs, CPPI, Builders Risk, RRP and OCP required
  • 10+ years of underwriting Loss Sensitive and Guaranteed Cost territorial experience of which 5+ years in a leadership/management role
  • Strong existing relationships with some or all regional agents and national brokers in Eastern region required
  • Solid financial/business acumen skills
  • Strong operational and execution excellence
  • Ability to learn/navigate internal computer systems
  • Experience with Microsoft computer package
  • Ability to travel extensively, 25-50%
