About the role

  • Vice President of Marketing responsible for overall strategic direction and management of TEDCO’s marketing strategies. Positioning TEDCO and its offerings within Maryland’s innovation ecosystem with integrated marketing initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead TEDCO’s enterprise-wide marketing strategy, building brand awareness and strengthening market positioning for TEDCO and its various programs
  • Develop and execute integrated go-to-market strategies aligned with TEDCO’s mission, organizational priorities, and ecosystem growth goals
  • Translate complex technology, innovation, and economic development initiatives into clear, compelling messaging and market-facing strategies
  • Identify opportunities to expand TEDCO’s visibility, stakeholder engagement, and program participation across key audiences
  • Lead brand strategy, messaging, and communications efforts that enhance TEDCO’s reputation and presence among entrepreneurs, investors, corporate partners, public agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Oversee integrated communications across digital, media, events, content, and stakeholder engagement channels
  • Elevate TEDCO’s thought leadership through strategic storytelling, executive visibility, and coordinated campaigns that highlight impact, innovation, and ecosystem value
  • Ensure messaging is consistent, audience-centered, and aligned with TEDCO’s strategic priorities
  • Partner with executive leadership and finance to align marketing strategy with growth objectives, program performance, and revenue-related goals
  • Support revenue-generating initiatives through customer acquisition, stakeholder engagement, program commercialization, sponsorship strategy, and market expansion efforts
  • Help shape pricing, value proposition, and market segmentation strategies to enhance program uptake, participation, and long-term sustainability
  • Use data and market insight to identify emerging opportunities, strengthen value delivery, and improve performance
  • Build and manage high-impact partnerships with corporations, government agencies, universities, investors, and ecosystem stakeholders to expand TEDCO’s reach and influence
  • Develop strategic alliances and collaborative initiatives that support TEDCO’s role as a leader within Maryland’s innovation ecosystem
  • Represent TEDCO externally as a key voice within technology, entrepreneurship, and economic development communities
  • Lead the strategy, execution, and growth of TEDCO’s annual Expo event, including positioning, programming, sponsorship development, stakeholder engagement, and overall event performance
  • Leverage major events and convenings to strengthen TEDCO’s brand, deepen relationships, generate engagement, and showcase innovation across the ecosystem
  • Establish and monitor KPIs and performance metrics across marketing, communications, events, stakeholder engagement, and related growth initiatives
  • Leverage CRM systems, analytics, and reporting tools to inform decision-making, improve campaign effectiveness, and enhance forecasting and performance visibility
  • Provide data, insights, dashboards, and presentations in preparation for executive leadership discussions and Board of Directors meetings
  • Assess performance trends and recommend strategic adjustments to improve reach, engagement, market penetration, and organizational impact
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing marketing and communications team
  • Provide general work direction to team members, establish SMART goals, conduct regular feedback sessions, and complete the mid-year and annual performance appraisal process
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Support cross-functional alignment with program, operations, finance, and executive leadership teams to ensure coordinated execution of enterprise priorities
  • Directly, or through team members, participate in the onboarding of new TEDCO staff as appropriate
  • Contribute to enterprise strategy, planning, and decision-making in support of TEDCO’s mission and long-term growth
  • Facilitate meetings with 1TEDCO to familiarize staff with marketing initiatives, gather insights, and strengthen internal alignment
  • Support Board engagement through strategic updates, presentations, and reporting
  • Travel domestically, as required

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in business, or related discipline preferred
  • Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing, growth strategy, market development, communications, or related executive roles
  • Demonstrated success in driving revenue-aligned growth, customer acquisition, engagement, and brand positioning initiatives
  • Proven experience in developing and executing go-to-market strategies and building strategic partnerships across public and private sector stakeholders
  • Strong experience leading market-facing initiatives in complex, mission-driven, innovation-focused, or ecosystem-based organizations
  • Experience overseeing major events, strategic convenings, sponsorships, or commercialization efforts preferred
  • Strong analytical, planning, and performance management skills
  • Experience using CRM systems, data, and performance metrics to drive decision-making and organizational effectiveness
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to influence, lead, negotiate, and delegate
  • Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and foster relationships internally and externally
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional presentation skills
  • Team-oriented and open to collaborative decision-making
  • Ability to handle multiple, sometimes competing priorities effectively
  • Strategic, creative thinker with the ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure
  • Demonstrated competency in working with diverse cultures and audiences, and in developing messaging that resonates with broad groups while being sensitive to cultural differences and sensitivities.
