Responsibilities
Help integrate fair and impartial, identity-responsive policing into policies, training, supervision, recruitment, and discipline.
Translate legal and research requirements into clear expectations and practices.
Lead analysis of policing data (e.g., stops, arrests, use of force, complaints) to identify disparities.
Turn findings into recommendations for policy, training, and operational improvements.
Support transparent public reporting.
Serve as a trusted civilian point of contact for impacted communities.
Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community members and leaders.
Facilitate shared governance and dialogue around policing concerns, especially during high-profile incidents.
Develop and deliver training on fair and impartial, identity-based policing.
Provide coaching and facilitation to support reflection, emotional intelligence, and decision-making.
Serve as a liaison to legislators, oversight bodies, advocacy groups, and partner agencies.
Track and apply best practices in fair and impartial policing.
Support a workplace culture grounded in equity, accountability, and wellness.
Assist leadership in addressing bias concerns, internal barriers, and retention challenges.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in social sciences, public administration, law, ethnic studies, psychology, social work, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and lived/professional experience.
Extensive experience working with communities disproportionately impacted by policing or state systems.
Demonstrated experience facilitating discussions about race, identity, power, and harm.
Experience in policy development, program implementation, community engagement, or equity-related work.
Ability to analyze complex data and translate results into practice.
Ability to travel around the state for work related purposes.
Experience in civilian oversight, public safety reform, or community co-governance structures.
Demonstrated expertise applying identity-based, fair and impartial, or procedural justice frameworks.
Experience conducting equity audits, or systems-level assessments of identity-based/relevant practices.
Professional experience in training and adult learning related to identity-responsive or fair and impartial policing.
Multilingual background.
Experience with police agencies or other criminal justice system partners.
