Analyst role in Biofuels Research and Analytics division of S&P Global Energy. Develops biorefinery margin models and supports biomethane research within global biofuels markets.
Responsibilities
Lead development and maintenance of the BCMA tool, improving model structure, inputs, assumptions, and documentation.
Support biomethane research, particularly RNG supply, demand, pricing, policy, and market dynamics.
Troubleshoot model and data issues quickly, identify root causes, and implement long‑term fixes.
Build and maintain Python workflows for data ingestion, cleaning, validation, and automation.
Use SQL to extract and validate data; work with partners to improve data quality and lineage.
Interpret model outputs and clearly communicate assumptions, limitations, and risks.
Explain model updates and their workflow impacts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Maintain clear, reproducible documentation for models and recurring processes.
Run end‑to‑end analyses—from defining questions to interpreting and communicating results.
Contribute to written research and client deliverables with accurate, timely insights.
Enhance the biogas/biomethane cost and margin framework as the role evolves.
Manage multiple deadlines, flag risks early, and balance competing priorities.
Collaborate across a distributed team and contribute to continuous improvement.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or another relevant quantitative program (with equivalent experience).
Advanced Python skills are essential for troubleshooting, workflow construction, automation, and robust model validation; SQL proficiency is required.
Strong team orientation—comfortable collaborating, sharing knowledge, and mentoring/uplifting colleagues when needed.
Prior understanding of biofuels, refining and/or gas markets is preferred but not required.
Excellent English writing and presentation skills.
A self-starter with the ability to work to deadlines and prioritize a complex workload with limited supervision.
Must be flexible with the ability to work collaboratively.
