About the role

  • Assistant Director of Procurement & Commercial leading strategic transformation of procurement at NMC. Shape procurement strategy and provide expert commercial advice in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Play a pivotal leadership role in transforming procurement into a true strategic enabler for NMC
  • Lead both strategic and operational procurement services
  • Position the function as a credible, influential voice at Executive and Board level
  • Shape and deliver an organisation-wide Procurement Strategy aligned to NMC’s regulatory purpose and financial objectives
  • Provide expert commercial advice on major programmes, routes to market and contract models
  • Oversee high-value and complex procurement activity
  • Embed best-practice contract and supplier management
  • Ensure full compliance with the Procurement Act 2023 and all relevant governance requirements
  • Drive efficiency, sustainability and innovation across the organisation
  • Champion value for money, lead initiatives such as spend analysis and the War on Waste programme
  • Build collaborative partnerships with other regulators to maximise collective buying power
  • Develop a high-performing team that delivers insight, assurance and measurable outcomes

Requirements

  • Significant senior-level experience leading procurement and commercial activity within a public sector or regulated environment
  • Strong track record of delivering value for money through complex, high-value contracts
  • Confident strategic leader who can operate at pace in a regulated setting
  • Strong analytical and financial skills
  • Comfortable translating data and market insight into clear, evidence-based recommendations for Executive and Board audiences
  • Credibility, influence and clarity in communication
  • Ability to engage senior stakeholders, challenge constructively and secure commitment
  • People leader, able to inspire and develop teams, embedding a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and professional excellence
