Responsibilities
Responsible for providing guidance and support across all Metallus sites in maintaining safety compliance with all internal and external requirements
Leading, guiding, and managing a safety and security team which includes salary and hourly union employees
Supporting the sites operations, conducting in-depth investigations, and developing corrective actions
Setting business strategy to achieve world-class industry excellence by utilizing education, experience, industry top practices, measures, and leading and lagging indicators
Presenting metrics with an assessment of business and plant safety performance with actions to drive improvement in performance.
Using metrics and compliance initiatives to develop the annual business plan.
Presenting safety details in front of the Board of Directors and actively engaging with the executive leadership team on the company's safety culture, strategy and performance.
Representing Metallus in matters of safety before the Department of Labor, OSHA, and local law enforcement agencies.
Actively participating in industry association safety committees to effect fair and equitable legislation and regulations by obtaining and evaluating information on future safety management practices and programs.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 15 years of experience in a manufacturing health & safety role including managing people for 10+ years.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree with 10 years of experience in a manufacturing health & safety role including managing people for 7+ years.
Proven leadership with expertise on standardization and change management
Background in developing and maintaining effective relationships with union safety leaders
Ability to effectively interact with all levels of executives, senior, and plant management
Ability to inspire and influence teams in embracing a culture of continuous improvement and safety
Ability to present guidance and direction to plant leadership in a technical and professional manner.
Ability to establish new processes, collaborate well with employees and leadership, and focus on accountability and prioritizing.
Technical education, basic sciences, and a strong background in safety and law regulations
Knowledge of Health and Safety programs and regulations (OSHA, FRA, NRC, etc.).
