About the role

  • Health & Safety Business Partner providing expert safety advice and support for Barnet Council's Safety, Health & Wellbeing priorities. Fostering a proactive safety culture across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the key point of contact for designated departments, building strong relationships and providing expert, pragmatic advice on all health, safety, and well-being matters.
  • Support the delivery of Barnet's Safety, Health & Wellbeing priorities
  • Lead and support risk management activities, safety audits, inspections, and assurance reviews.
  • Provide coaching and capacity-building support to managers, helping them meet their statutory responsibilities with confidence.
  • Support incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are translated into effective, sustainable improvements.
  • Analyse data and trends to identify risk areas and promote proactive solutions.
  • Champion a positive, collaborative safety culture aligned to the Council’s values and ways of working.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in a health and safety role within a complex organisation, ideally public sector or local authority.
  • Relevant safety qualification. NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) or working towards it.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage constructively with managers, frontline services and senior leaders.
  • A practical, solution-focused approach that balances compliance with operational realities.
  • Strong collaboration skills, and a commitment to supporting a culture that puts safety and well-being at the heart of service delivery.
