Claims Manager overseeing claim processing and management activities at Kemper. Managing claims staff, ensuring compliance, and improving operational efficiency in the insurance sector.
Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations for assigned claims staff by establishing schedules and priorities
Coach employees in reviewing, analyzing, investigating, negotiating and settling claims in compliance with Kemper Claims Standards
Responsible for oversight of claim files (non-litigated or litigated) within aligned unit to include reviews on open inventory and review of files to assess overall quality
Build a high performing, results-oriented staff, assist with employee onboarding, ongoing development, and managing individual performance through ongoing coaching focused on competencies and technical skills
Lead and effectively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
Monitor, evaluate and authorize, within assigned authority limits, claim reserves, settlements and payments that exceed staff authority
Leverage analytics to monitor assigned claims staff production, inventory, quality and results
Monitor KPIs to ensure production and quality goals are met
Remain abreast of existing, proposed, and new legislation affecting the industry
Drive, interpret and communicate current Company policies, change initiatives, claim developments and procedural changes
Prepare and conduct performance and competency assessments.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Five years claims handling experience preferred
Three years supervisory experience or equivalent leadership experience preferred
Proficiency with computer skills to include Microsoft Suite products and web-based applications
Must obtain and maintain state licensing where applicable
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet qualifications to operate a company vehicle under the Company’s Vehicle Policy
Comprehensive understanding of insurance policies and knowledge of relevant state laws and regulations governing auto insurance claims
Time management skills ensuring deadlines are met for claim resolution
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders
Strong analytical skills to lead team in making informed claim handling decisions.
