About the role

  • Claims Manager overseeing claim processing and management activities at Kemper. Managing claims staff, ensuring compliance, and improving operational efficiency in the insurance sector.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations for assigned claims staff by establishing schedules and priorities
  • Coach employees in reviewing, analyzing, investigating, negotiating and settling claims in compliance with Kemper Claims Standards
  • Responsible for oversight of claim files (non-litigated or litigated) within aligned unit to include reviews on open inventory and review of files to assess overall quality
  • Build a high performing, results-oriented staff, assist with employee onboarding, ongoing development, and managing individual performance through ongoing coaching focused on competencies and technical skills
  • Lead and effectively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Monitor, evaluate and authorize, within assigned authority limits, claim reserves, settlements and payments that exceed staff authority
  • Leverage analytics to monitor assigned claims staff production, inventory, quality and results
  • Monitor KPIs to ensure production and quality goals are met
  • Remain abreast of existing, proposed, and new legislation affecting the industry
  • Drive, interpret and communicate current Company policies, change initiatives, claim developments and procedural changes
  • Prepare and conduct performance and competency assessments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Five years claims handling experience preferred
  • Three years supervisory experience or equivalent leadership experience preferred
  • Proficiency with computer skills to include Microsoft Suite products and web-based applications
  • Must obtain and maintain state licensing where applicable
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet qualifications to operate a company vehicle under the Company’s Vehicle Policy
  • Comprehensive understanding of insurance policies and knowledge of relevant state laws and regulations governing auto insurance claims
  • Time management skills ensuring deadlines are met for claim resolution
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills to lead team in making informed claim handling decisions.
