About the role

  • Business Development Manager collaborating on IoT commercialization strategies for Fraunhofer in Asia. Leading market activities, building partnerships, and ensuring project success in smart metering and smart cities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop regional go-to-market strategies for India, China, Japan and other Asian markets together with our regional managers.
  • Collaborate with and mentor our business partners in Asia to ensure structured pipeline management, sales execution, forecasting accuracy and strategic prioritization.
  • Work closely with the Field Application Engineer to ensure seamless technical delivery: planning pilot projects, customer onboarding and post-sales support.
  • Build strong relationships with executives at utilities, municipal authorities, telecom operators, system integrators and device manufacturers, and coordinate the expansion of the mioty® ecosystem.
  • Qualify opportunities and carry out structured reporting, including technical/commercial proposals, pricing frameworks, contracts and negotiations.
  • Represent Fraunhofer IIS at industry events in Europe and Asia to position mioty® as a leading LPWAN standard.
  • Monitor market developments and derive strategic recommendations for product and business development.

Requirements

  • University degree in business administration, engineering, telecommunications, computer science or a related field.
  • Experience in technical B2B sales or business development within IoT, preferably in smart metering and smart cities, connectivity, telecommunications or industrial automation.
  • Proven sales leadership skills, ideally with experience leading regional sales or cross-country teams in APAC.
  • Strong understanding of IoT technologies, wireless communication and preferably LPWAN ecosystems (mioty®, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT or comparable networks).
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills and ability to work effectively with partners and customers in India, China and Japan.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across Asia (20–30%) and to other countries.
  • Fluent in English and German required; knowledge of additional regional languages is a strong advantage.
