About the role

  • Talent Compliance Specialist responsible for compliance and documentation in a linguist network at Hanna Interpreting Services LLC. Addressing independent contractor legal requirements for California.

Responsibilities

  • Talent Documentation Auditing: Systematically review and audit new and existing Talent files to ensure all legal requirements for independent contractor status are met to include Licensure/Certification and Business Certification.
  • Compliance Education Support: Assist in developing and disseminating clear, simple, and positive communications to educate linguists on compliance requirements and the legal necessity of their business documents.
  • 1099 Talent Onboarding: Administer the compliance portion of the onboarding process, including verifying completed W-9 forms; Track the execution and renewal of all essential legal documents, including the Talent Services Agreement and Mutual Arbitration Agreement.
  • Partnering with Talent Engagement: Work directly with the Talent Engagement team to embed compliance messaging into recruitment and retention efforts. This ensures a consistent, positive, and legally sound message is delivered regarding the independent contractor relationship and the referral agency exemption.
  • Liaison with Warranty Claims: Collaborate with the Warranty Claims department to review instances where Talent conduct may impact compliance with professional standards laid out in agreements and required modules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. A JD, paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience in employment law is highly preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in compliance, HR, or legal roles, with specific expertise in California independent contractor 1099 compliance.
  • Foundational understanding of state and federal labor laws and the legal requirements for the Referral Agency Exemption in the language services industry.
  • Proven ability to be a go-getter, taking initiative to resolve issues and work independently to manage deadlines and priorities without constant supervision.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail in verifying, tracking, and maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to convey regulatory information accurately while maintaining an encouraging, professional, and engagement-focused tone.
  • Excellent ability to interpret complex legal statutes and translate them into actionable, compliant business practices.
  • Proficient in using customer relationship management (e.g., HubSpot), databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
