About the role

  • Route Sales Representative responsible for ordering, sales, and delivery in a bakery environment. Building customer relationships and ensuring product freshness within designated service windows.

Responsibilities

  • A Route Sales Representative (RSR) is responsible for ordering, sales, and delivery of fresh baked products.
  • The successful candidate must come to work with a neat, professional appearance (sometimes in a uniform) and be able to build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Drivers will check their delivery vehicle daily, keeping accurate records, quickly reporting maintenance issues, and filling out daily driver’s logs, time logs, and hours of service.
  • This position will require flexibility to work varying workdays and early morning start times.
  • Generally, start times are around 3:00am and days off are on Wednesday and Sunday.
  • An RSR is also expected to increase sales by expanding shelf space, creatively displaying in-store promotions and displays, and making sure product shelf life is maximized by properly rotating the products.
  • An effective RSR will use data and marketing plans to build relationships and drive customer growth through effective communication, planning, ordering, and execution.
  • They will work together with the customers to increase sales and drive customer satisfaction.
  • Adaptability and flexibility will be a must since RSRs will need to service their accounts during the customer’s designated service windows and may need to work non-traditional business hours to complete deliveries.
  • An eagerness to gain knowledge and skills about the industry along with the ability to work independently and as a team will be the key to success for an RSR working in a DSD (Direct Store Delivery) environment.
  • Prior experience as a delivery driver will be beneficial for adapting to the demands of this role.

Requirements

  • Sales experience.
  • Delivery driver experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have had a valid driver’s license for at least 3 years.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license and documented safe driving record.
  • Must meet Fleet Insurance Guidelines.
  • Must adhere to federal, state, and local rules regarding the operation of a CMV.
  • Must execute the best practices of RSR training (after 4-week company paid training).
  • Must be able to push or pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus, but not required.
