About the role

  • Ventilation/Mechanical Engineer carrying out planned and reactive maintenance at University Hospital Southampton. Maintaining various mechanical systems and supervising subcontractors as part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and complete the appropriate paperwork and reports.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with planned and reactive maintenance of ventilation / mechanical equipment and associated electrics.
  • Experience of ventilation /mechanical maintenance, testing & fault finding on a variety of equipment including plumbing, boiler plant, ventilation, pumps, switchgear, controls, cables, small power and lighting.
  • Liaison and supervision of subcontractors in relation to method statement risk assessment and safe execution of works.
  • Ability to read, understand and diagnose faults utilising as-installed electrical drawings, as-installed schedules, contract specifications and equipment.
  • Identify spare parts to carry out repairs and order through appropriate channels, monitoring of stock related items.
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance of ventilation / mechanical plant in line with HTMs and SFG20.
  • Ensuring all tasks are completed within the contractual time scales.
  • Assisting other team members when required or as directed.
  • Proactively being involved with reducing energy consumption on site.
  • Undertake AP (vent) duties if required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a ventilation / mechanical engineer, in a busy service environment.
  • HVAC qualifications would be an advantage.
  • Training in or experience of General H&S Regulations, carrying out the preparation of Risk Assessments for works within the site.
  • Must be experienced and self-motivated and able to identify concerns / defects without direction.
  • Reliable. (Through regular reviews of works attendance, attitude and competence).
  • Basic electrical , plumbing and mechanical experience.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to use initiative in day to day duties.
  • Assist in the fulfilment of health and safety responsibilities within the Hospital.
  • Provide general support duties.
  • Other reasonable requests when required.
