Industrial Engineer at Article creating commercially viable design concepts for furniture manufacturing. Collaborating with teams for technical accuracy and efficiency in product development.
Responsibilities
Create initial technical drawings to support vendor allocation, early costing, and prototype development
Collaborate with Product Design to balance aesthetics with structural and manufacturing constraints
Develop detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and construction specifications across furniture categories (Case Goods, Upholstery, etc.)
Provide accurate 3D modeling data and technical details to the CGI team to ensure alignment between marketing imagery and physical products
Build and maintain engineering databases and PINFO (Product Info) packages for new and existing products
Lead the standardization of construction methodologies to improve functionality, durability, and ease of assembly
Identify value engineering opportunities to reduce material waste and production costs while preserving customer value
Provide technical consultation to resolve engineering failures or quality issues identified by Quality or TPD teams
Partner closely with Sourcing and TPD to support vendor allocation and initial costing through accurate technical data
Communicate technical changes, risks, and constraints clearly to cross-functional partners (Design, Category Management)
Requirements
3-5+ years of experience as an Industrial Engineer, Product Engineer, or Technical Product Developer
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Wood Technology, or a related field
Deep experience in the furniture industry is required
Advanced proficiency in creating and interpreting technical drawings using SolidWorks
Strong understanding of furniture construction methods, materials, costs, and production systems (wood species, veneers, substrates, metal, upholstery)
Demonstrated experience with DFM (Design for Manufacture) and NPI (New Product Introduction)
Comfortable discussing engineering challenges openly and proactively surfacing solutions early
Proactive collaborator who can clearly explain technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders
Strong English communication skills (written and verbal).
