About the role

  • Environmental Planning & Regulatory Discipline Lead managing environmental planning projects for AJM Environmental. Leading teams, overseeing regulatory applications, and ensuring compliance across sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage regulatory and environmental planning projects, including budgeting, scheduling, invoicing, issue management, and delivery of high-quality final products;
  • Prepare and provide senior technical oversight of regulatory applications, submissions, approval strategies and environmental planning deliverables submitted to agencies such as AER, EPA, CER, AUC, and others;
  • Design and oversee field-based audit, compliance assurance, and environmental monitoring programs;
  • Lead environmental inspections of construction activities, including pipelines, drilling programs, and other linear and facility-based developments;
  • Conduct and oversee desktop and field-level environmental risk assessments to support planning, permitting, and construction phases;
  • Act as a technical liaison between clients, regulators, and internal teams to support efficient approvals and issue resolution;
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and pricing for regulatory and environmental planning work.
  • Lead AJM’s Environmental Planning & Regulatory discipline, including technical standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Mentor, coach, and support Intermediate and Junior staff in technical, professional, and consulting skill development;
  • Act as a cultural and safety role model, reinforcing AJM’s core values across teams and projects;
  • Maintain the ability and willingness to participate in field-based inspections, audits, and monitoring when required;
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted client relationships through high-quality work and responsive service;
  • Actively contribute to business development through client engagement, opportunity identification, and proposal support;
  • Represent AJM externally through client meetings, regulatory meetings, conferences, and industry forums as appropriate;
  • Work independently and occasionally outside of standard office hours to meet project deadlines and client needs.

Requirements

  • BSc. in Environmental Science, Biology, Planning, Ecology, or a related discipline
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with an applicable professional association (e.g., P.Biol., R.P. Bio., P.Ag., or equivalent, depending on background)
  • 10+ years of progressive environmental consulting experience, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities
  • Strong technical expertise in environmental planning, regulatory approvals, compliance, monitoring, and inspection programs
  • Demonstrated experience working with provincial and federal regulators and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to mentor staff and lead teams in a consulting environment
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear, defensible regulatory documentation
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and ambiguity
  • A self-starter who thrives working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • A strong track record of fostering and maintaining a positive health and safety culture
  • Comfortable learning and using new technology to improve efficiency and outcomes
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to help grow and shape a technical discipline
