About the role

  • VP, Casualty Claims managing a team and overseeing complex casualty claims for Arch Insurance. Driving strategic initiatives to improve outcomes across jurisdictions in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management and resolution of complex casualty claims across our commercial lines portfolio.
  • Lead a team of claims professionals, ensuring high-quality claim handling.
  • Drive strategic initiatives to improve outcomes for high-severity, complex general liability, auto, excess, and umbrella claims.
  • Provide technical expertise and oversight to a Casualty Claims department directly handling complex casualty coverage issues.
  • Leads, directs and has full management accountability for Claims staff with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Risk Management, Actuarial, TPAs and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with development of Claims annual operational goals, objectives and budgets.
  • Manage the Trial Committee process, including review of cases set for trial and development of resolution strategies.
  • Oversee reserve reviews and ensure timely and accurate reserving practices for casualty claims.
  • Conduct training sessions on current topics and facilitate both internal and external partnership calls.
  • Partner with other business unit leadership to ensure consistency in process and quality claim handling across business units.
  • Identify opportunities for loss cost reduction and support strategies that improve financial outcomes.
  • Work on various claims-related projects as needed.
  • Develop and implement strategies relative to coverage issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 + years of experience in the insurance industry handling coverage issues and casualty claims, including general liability, auto, excess, and umbrella.
  • 7 + years of demonstrated management experience leading a team of claims examiners in primary and excess.
  • Licenses in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Applicants must possess or obtain proper and active adjuster licensing in all applicable states within three months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability in analyzing, organizing and presenting information in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of casualty claims handling with the ability to advise Claims Examiners on complex cases.
  • Ability to analyze complex coverage issues and draft coverage disclaimers/Reservation of Rights letters.
  • Casualty Claims Audit experience.
  • Demonstrates strong executive presence with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), evaluating, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively develop productive working relationships with internal/external peers and other professionals across organizational lines.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in taking part in active strategic discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability in working independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent presentation skills & ability to make decisions in a team-based environment.
  • Willing and able to travel 15%.
