About the role

  • Analyzing complex legal and factual issues
  • Conducting extensive research
  • Developing well-reasoned legal strategies
  • Independently creating and presenting defense strategies on behalf of clients
  • Preparing complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs
  • Facilitating prompt and efficient resolution of cases
  • Preparing and presenting witnesses and evidence in trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings
  • Researching, drafting, filing, and arguing appellate briefs in reviewing courts
  • Participating in team huddles and conducting in-house training for junior associates and claims partners
  • Engaging in claims file reviews
  • Attending continuing legal education seminars

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases
  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California
  • Trial experience is preferred
  • Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers’ Compensation cases (for Senior Staff Attorney position)
