About the role
- Senior Game Designer leading systems design and gameplay balance for PvP multiplayer experience at independent studio in Austin. Collaborating with engineers and designers for engaging mechanics.
Responsibilities
- Design and iterate on combat systems, abilities, and PvP gameplay loops
- Own player progression, unlock systems, and reward mechanics
- Collaborate with gameplay engineers, animators, and UI/UX to bring mechanics to life
- Document features, prototype designs, and present ideas to key stakeholders
- Balance for competitive fairness, retention, and excitement
- Analyse playtest and live data to inform game tuning and improvements
Requirements
- 4+ years of game design experience, including a shipped multiplayer or PvP title
- Deep understanding of combat, meta systems, and player incentives
- Proficiency with scripting tools or in-engine design systems (e.g. Unreal Blueprints, Lua)
- Analytical mindset with experience using telemetry to guide decisions
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Bonus: Experience designing live-service systems or competitive ranking models
