About the role

  • Review mortgage loan applications and supporting documentation received on a daily basis, and negotiate terms with mortgage brokers
  • Decline applications, recommend approval, and in certain cases approve applications
  • Ensure approved applications are closed within expected timelines and as efficiently as possible by following up on outstanding conditions/documents
  • Conduct daily follow-up on mortgage commitments with brokers to ensure efficient file closings
  • Deliver the highest level of internal and external customer service while responding to broker requests and maintaining strong broker relationships
  • Provide underwriting expertise to brokers, clients, and colleagues, and keep up to date with company policies, procedures, and products.

Requirements

  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) practices
  • Proven organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and rigor
  • Excellent time-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-changing, high-intensity, high-volume environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • At least two years’ experience in the alternative mortgage market
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree, preferably in a finance-related field
  • Knowledge of fraud risk in the mortgage sector and ability to address suspected misrepresentation concerns
  • Proficiency in English sufficient to serve English-speaking clients across Canada.
