Responsibilities
Review mortgage loan applications and supporting documentation received on a daily basis, and negotiate terms with mortgage brokers
Decline applications, recommend approval, and in certain cases approve applications
Ensure approved applications are closed within expected timelines and as efficiently as possible by following up on outstanding conditions/documents
Conduct daily follow-up on mortgage commitments with brokers to ensure efficient file closings
Deliver the highest level of internal and external customer service while responding to broker requests and maintaining strong broker relationships
Provide underwriting expertise to brokers, clients, and colleagues, and keep up to date with company policies, procedures, and products.
Requirements
Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Excellent attention to detail
Strong knowledge of anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) practices
Proven organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and rigor
Excellent time-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to make decisions under pressure
Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-changing, high-intensity, high-volume environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
At least two years’ experience in the alternative mortgage market
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
Post-secondary diploma or degree, preferably in a finance-related field
Knowledge of fraud risk in the mortgage sector and ability to address suspected misrepresentation concerns
Proficiency in English sufficient to serve English-speaking clients across Canada.
