About the role

  • Conduct legal and policy research for the Capital Punishment Project
  • Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs
  • Research prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims
  • Research and draft materials for public education
  • Support public advocacy and strategic litigation, including amicus briefs and direct representation work

Requirements

  • Currently matriculated legal student (must complete 1 year of law school before internship commences)
  • Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship
  • Demonstrated/ strong interest in the abolition of the death penalty and a commitment to civil rights
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong computer skills, particularly web-based research and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Initiative to see projects through to completion
  • Availability for full-time (35 hour/week) commitment for 10 consecutive weeks starting May 26 or June 8
  • Lawful authorization to work in the U.S. to receive stipend
