About the role

  • Provide litigation and administrative support to a group of United States Attorneys
  • Receive and review incoming material and prepare legal documents (charging instruments, motions, orders, pleadings, deposition notices, trial subpoenas and grand jury subpoenas)
  • Proofread and edit drafts of legal documents such as motions, orders, correspondence, discovery requests and responses
  • Electronically file documents with state or federal courts following local court rules and practices
  • Assist with trial preparation by compiling trial notebooks and witness and exhibit lists
  • Prepare and track grand jury subpoenas and returns; organize, process and copy documents; assemble record materials for court filings
  • Compose original legal correspondence and transmittals
  • Perform docketing duties using automated case tracking systems
  • Obligate funds for litigation expenses; review bills and invoices and submit to budget office for payment
  • Maintain calendars of assigned active cases; track filing, hearing, and trial dates; schedule appointments and interviews
  • Assemble physical and electronic files for new cases and prepare files for closing
  • Receive visitors, answer telephone, deliver and retrieve papers from the federal courthouse
  • Produce documents and materials using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Access, Adobe Acrobat and other databases; prepare courtroom visual materials
  • Provide automated litigation assistance and technical support for courtroom presentations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized litigation experience required; over three years preferred
  • Experience reviewing legal documents (complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, libels)
  • Experience retrieving and assembling information for hearing and/or trial use
  • Experience researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information
  • Experience maintaining file systems and using automated software to produce legal related reports, documents, correspondence and related materials
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Hands-on familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance
