About the role

  • Report to the VP, Reporting & Accounting Policy and lead/manage RGA's technical accounting function
  • Prepare and communicate accounting policies across U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory Accounting Principles, IFRS, etc.
  • Research new accounting pronouncements, evaluate impact, and recommend compliance alternatives
  • Serve as accounting subject matter expert on complex transactions and document RGA's position
  • Oversee preparation of technical accounting memos
  • Develop processes, training, and materials to share new policies and reinforce compliance
  • Serve as contact for segment accountants and business partners to ensure compliance
  • Lead and provide assistance on broad finance-related projects and analyses
  • Manage technical accounting SharePoint site

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience (graduate-level degree would be an asset)
  • CPA certification
  • Minimum of 10 years accounting or auditing experience with experience dealing with auditors
  • 5+ years management experience
  • 5+ years insurance/reinsurance accounting experience at an advanced and competent level (highly desired asset)
  • Basic Word, intermediate Excel and SQL/Query skills
  • Expert knowledge of accounting/finance, including GAAP, statutory and SEC requirements
  • Advanced ability to define and apply accounting guidelines and produce technical accounting memos
  • Highly advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly advanced investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Highly advanced ability to liaise across operational, functional, and technical disciplines
  • Highly advanced people management skills including leading, mentoring, and developing associates
  • FLMI is a desired asset
