Investigates and analyzes grievances alleging ethical misconduct by lawyers in accordance with the ELC and ODC procedure
Determines means to protect the public and respondent lawyers, may require written responses, records, interviews, depositions, and seek suspension for non-cooperation
Directs investigators, paralegals, administrative assistants, and auditors assigned to investigations, ensuring conduct aligns with RPC and ELC confidentiality obligations
Applies law to facts, assesses resolution (dismiss, defer, divert, or seek public discipline), and drafts letters and memoranda detailing investigation results
Conducts trial-like hearings of public disciplinary cases; drafts pleadings, motions, discovery requests, briefs, and responses
Decides evidence to present, conducts legal research, prepares witnesses, and handles evidentiary objections, stipulations, examination and cross-examination of witnesses
Represents ODC in settlement conferences; briefs and argues discipline and disability cases in appeals to the Disciplinary Board and Supreme Court
Prepares interim suspension petitions to the Washington Supreme Court and evaluates case strengths for sanction recommendations
Negotiates and drafts proposed stipulations to discipline, disability inactive status, and resignations in lieu of discipline
Performs other duties: consulting with members, presenting CLEs, coordinating with adjunct counsel, and providing staff support or liaison to groups, committees, and task forces
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor or Law Clerk Program Completion
Minimum 2 years practicing law, including litigation experience
Active Washington license to practice law
Experience Preferred: 7 or more years practicing law with experience in both criminal and civil areas and/or appeals

Strong technical aptitude to quickly learn systems (Westlaw, Docrio/Litify, case management software, videoconferencing technology), copiers, scanners, fax machines, courtroom display technology
Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis; position not eligible for Sponsorship
WSBA Staff must reside within the State of Washington at the time of hire, and during active employment
Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Must be able to regularly work five days per week in an office type environment (remote or in office)
Must be able to lift/push/pull items weighing up to 25 pounds
